How do I use an SSL certificate from another provider?

 

1. Login to your Bigcommerce control panel.

2. Click on Setup & Tools, then SSL Certificate. 895-setup-tools-ssl.png

3. You will then see a popup box detailing the offered SSL Certificates through BigCommerce. SelectView SSL Certificate Options or Purchase another SSL.895-view-ssl-options.png

4. Select I have my own certificate I'd like to install.895-own-cert.png

5. Choose I need a CSR to generate my SSL Certificate, then click Continue.895-need-csr.png

6. Fill in the required details and check the box acknowledging your store may be unavailable for a short time.895-csr-details.png

7. The CSR is now available to be copied into your SSL Provider's Website.

When you generate your SSL certificate, you will be asked to select a Server Type. You will want to choose Apache or Apache Mod, since those are the types of servers on which Bigcommerce store runs.

8. After receiving your certificate from your SSL provider, navigate to your store's Control Panel. Click on Setup & Tools, and then SSL Certificate.

9. Open your certificates with a text editor and copy the red highlighted portion. Paste the contents of your SSL certificates and then click Continue. (Examples and details shown below; your certfiicate might not look exactly the same.)

10. Copy the code for your main web server certificate as shown above (just an example), and thenpaste it on the top box of the SSL Installation tool.

11. If available, copy the code from your intermiediate/CA certificate into the box below.intermediateca.png

If you have more than one Intermediate/CA Certificate, copy and paste them one after the other in the bottom box with no extra spaces

12. Your certificate will be scheduled for installation which will then occur with the next 5 to 10 minutes.

Please provide from 5 minutes to 1 hour for the certificate to succesfully install. After that if you see any issues please contact Bigcommerce Support.


Install a 3rd Party SSL Certificate using an existing SSL Certificate & Private Key

1. Follow steps 1 through 4 as outlined above. Select I already have my SSL certificate and private key then click continue.895-private-key.png

2. Here you can paste in the following three items that should have been provided to you from the SSL issuer.895-private-key-details.png

3. Select I understand my store may be temporarily unavailable, and click Continue.

4. Your certificate will be scheduled for installation which will then occur with the next 5 to 10 minutes.

Please provide from 5 minutes to 1 hour for the certificate to succesfully install. After that if you see any issues please contact Bigcommerce Support.
