As many of our clients know, purchasing SSL from a hosting provider can be very expensive. In order to overcome those ridiculous prices and purchase the SSL certificate of your choice we took the time to write this general guide to installing 3rd Party SSL.
First, the only thing that SSL installation requires is a dedicated IP address. If you already have SSL on your website you have nothing to worry about, if this is your first time then double check with your hosting company to confirm that your website is currently using a dedicated IP.
The second step is to purchase the SSL certificate and generate the Certificate Signing Request (CSR). To purchase a certificate simply visit our SSLStore and pick the certificate that correctly addresses all of your needs, if you need help choosing the correct SSL certificate feel free to use our online chat feature or contact us directly. Once you have purchased the certificate you will be prompted by Email to complete the SSL configurator. The configurator will automatically guide you through generating the a CSR file and all other information that is required by the certificate authority. During the configurator you will be asked to provide a valid generic email address please see Acceptable Verification Email Addresses in our knowledge base.
Finally the last step is to obtain your CRT file from the certificate authority. Depending on the Brand and validation type you purchased it could take anywhere from 15 minutes to several business days for your certificate to be issued. If needed during this time you can configure and use our Free 90 day SSL certificate and replace it once yours is issued. Once you have the CRT file for either certificate simply inform your hosting company via live chat, support ticket etc. and they will kindly assist you with the rest of the installation process. Below are some of the largest Hosting companies and links on how to install 3rd party SSL.
