SSL becomes a necessity for online business

Everything started in 2014 when Google announced about using SSL as a ranking signal in Google Search Algorithm. Next step made by the the giant was to flag unencrypted websites as insecure in Chrome browser, displaying a red “X” over a padlock in the URL bar.

Mozilla Firefox also took steps to fully encrypte and make the Internet a safer place. In 2015 they decided to gradually phasing out access to browser features for non-ssl websites. Especially those which features that pose risks to users’ privacy and security.

2017 is moving toward SSL.

To the largest brands supporting SSL - websites also join Wordpress. On its official blog we can find the information that they are going to see features in WordPress which require hosts to have HTTPS available.

They announced to promote hosting partners that provide a SSL certificate by default in their accounts. Later on make the some features for the users only enabled when SSL is available on their website.
